1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The PIC12CE67X de vices are lo w-cost, high-perf or-
mance, CMOS , fully-static , 8-bit microcontroller with
integrated analog-to-digital (A/D) con verter and
EEPROM data memor y in the PIC12CEXXX Micro-
controller family.
All PICmicro™ microcontrollers emplo y an adv anced
RISC architecture . The PIC12C67X microcontrollers
have enhanced core f eatures, eight-level deep stac k,
and m ultiple inter nal and e xternal interr upt sources .
The separate instruction and data buses of the Harvard
architecture allo w a 14-bit wide instr uction w ord with
the separate 8-bit wide data. The two stage instruction
pipeline allo ws all instr uctions to e xecute in a single
cycle, except for program branches which require tw o
cycles. A total of 35 instr uctions (reduced instr uction
set) are available. Additionally, a large register set gives
some of the architectural innovations used to achieve a
very high performance.
PIC12C67X microcontrollers typically achie ve a 2:1
code compression and a 4:1 speed impro vement over
other 8-bit microcontrollers in their class.
The PIC12CE67X devices have 128 bytes of RAM, 16
bytes of EEPROM data memory, 5 I/O pins and 1 input
pin. In addition a timer/counter is a vailable. Also a 4-
channel high-speed 8-bit A/D is provided. The 8-bit res-
olution is ideally suited f or applications requir ing low-
cost analog interface, e.g. thermostat control, pressure
sensing, etc.
The PIC12CE67X de vice has special f eatures to
reduce e xternal components , thus reducing cost,
enhancing system reliability and reducing po wer con-
sumption. The P ower-On Reset (POR), P ower-up
Timer (PWR T), and Oscillator Star t-up Timer (OST)
eliminate the need for external reset circuitry. There are
five oscillator configurations to choose from, including
INTRC precision inter nal oscillator mode and the
power-saving LP (Lo w Power) oscillator mode. Power
saving SLEEP mode , Watchdog Timer and code
protection f eatures impro ve system cost, po wer and
reliability.The SLEEP (power-down) feature provides a
power sa ving mode . The user can w ake up the chip
from SLEEP through se veral e xternal and inter nal
interrupts and resets.
PIC12CE67X
A highly reliab le Watchdog Timer with its o wn on-chip
RC oscillator provides protection against software lock-
up.
A UV er asable windowed package version is ideal f or
code development while the cost-eff ective One-Time-
Programmable (OTP) version is suitable for production
in any volume. The customer can take full advantage of
Microchip’s pr ice leadership in O TP microcontrollers
while benefiting from the OTP’s flexibility.
The PIC12CE67X device fi ts perfectly in applications
ranging from security and remote sensors to appliance
control and automotiv e. The EPR OM technology
makes customization of application prog rams (tr ans-
mitter codes, motor speeds, receiver frequencies, etc.)
extremely f ast and con venient. The small f ootprint
packages make this microcontroller ser ies perfect for
all applications with space limitations . Lo w cost, lo w
power, high performance, ease of use and I/O flexibility
make the PIC12CE67X v ery v ersatile e ven in areas
where no microcontroller use has been considered
before (e .g. timer functions , comm unications and
coprocessor applications).
1.1 Family and Upward Compatibility
The PIC12CE67X products are compatib le with other
members of the 14-Bit, PIC12C67X and PIC16CXXX
families.
1.2 Development Support
The PIC12CE67X de vice is suppor ted b y a full-f ea-
tured macro assembler, a software simulator, an in-cir-
cuit emulator, a low-cost development programmer and
a full-featured prog rammer. A “C” compiler and fuzzy
logic support tools are also available.
